Godless Youth & The Spirit’s Nudge
I was raised in a household where God wasn’t a thing we discussed. Ours wasn’t the type of family to say grace before meals or attend church on Sundays. While my parents didn’t seem opposed to the idea of God, it simply wasn’t a topic of conversation. Perhaps this upbringing influenced my adulthood, leading me to feel no inclination toward belief in a “higher power,” as some would term it. Unfortunately, this lack of spiritual connection left an orphan in search of meaning for the first half of my life. To be candid, my journey towards faith truly began during the 2020 pandemic. It was then that I grappled with feelings of depression, isolation, and helplessness, prompting a deeper need.
Reflecting on my journey, I’m fascinated by the sequence of events that led me to where I am today, and it’s a testament to the power of God. As one becomes more aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit, it’s remarkable how His guidance becomes evident in our lives. During late August to early September of 2020, I found myself inexplicably drawn to search online for churches in my area, despite not yet holding a belief in God. It was a curious urge that I couldn’t quite comprehend at the time. Looking back now, I recognize that it was the Holy Spirit gently nudging me forward. In a moment of desperation, I finally yielded to that prompting and began to pay attention.
Divine Connection & Into the Church
Despite my diligent efforts to craft a series of thoughtful emails, the responses I received were disappointingly sparse and unhelpful. Then, on September 29, 2020, at 9:54 PM, a message suddenly appeared in my Facebook Messenger from an unfamiliar sender. The message began with the words, “This is a long shot, but I received an email from a Jason earlier today, but I cannot reply back because the email is bouncing back.” I sat in disbelief for a moment, processing the unexpected turn of events. After gathering my thoughts, I engaged in a brief exchange with the stranger and then I went to bed.
Initially, I didn’t dwell on it too deeply, but over time, a sense of obligation crept in. After all, the stranger had gone to the trouble of tracking me down online. Then, on October 4, 2020, I mustered the courage to step through the doors of the church. The service focused on the Apostle’s Creed, and while I can’t quite recall the specifics of the message, the overwhelming sense of relief and acceptance that God placed into my heart remains vivid. It was as if the hands of Christ rested gently on my shoulders, and a voice whispered, “welcome home.”
Community, Purpose, and New Life
I made it a habit to attend Sunday services regularly, and I even brought my daughter along to Sunday school. While I made a few casual acquaintances, I didn’t form any deep connections outside of those centered on Christ. Struggling to find meaningful relationships within my new faith community, I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and joined a small group. To my surprise, I found myself enjoying the experience immensely, and I built friendships rooted in Christ. Encouraged by this newfound sense of belonging, I eagerly signed up to volunteer, driven by a desire to serve and give back to my community.
On August 29, 2021, I made a profound choice to be baptized, fully embracing the light of Christ. Emerging from the baptismal waters, I felt as though I had embarked on a new journey, with a divine calling placed firmly in my heart. Motivated by this newfound sense of purpose, I was on a mission to find ways to answer that call and bring glory to God, which ultimately led me to launch a podcast called “My Ministry Mission” on June 1, 2022. Despite my expanding responsibilities, I remain active in serving at the church, and I’ve had the privilege of joining church leaders in reaching out to the less fortunate in our community.
The Journey Continues
“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.” (Ephesians 6:7-8)
The Lord truly blesses those who serve, and one of those blessings is the joy that fills our hearts when we impact another life as the hands and feet of Christ. I see this as just the beginning of an incredible journey! “My Ministry Mission” has evolved into a platform that aids me in my own walk of faith while allowing me to impart the lessons and Biblical truths I’ve gathered. I’ve been on a spiritual quest to discover my role in ministry, to extend a helping hand to others, and to carry out the work of the Lord… and this podcast has become part of my ministry.
Each of us has a ministry mission gifted to us by God, a divine purpose uniquely woven into the fabric of who we are. It’s not limited to pastors, missionaries, church leaders, or even podcasters; its for every believer who calls Jesus Lord. God has placed within you a calling that fits perfectly with the talents, passion, and opportunities he’s given you.
I invite you to join me on this journey, to seek out and live that calling with boldness and faith. Together, let’s become the hands and feet of Christ in a world that desperately needs His love. Let’s serve with compassion, give with joy, and walk humbly with our God. And as you dive into this mission, I know you’ll discover something profound: the joy and fulfillment that only God can provide. The world offers fleeting satisfaction, but the peace that comes from serving in your God-given purpose endures forever. When we align our lives with His will, we will find that every act of love, every word of truth, and every step of faith ripples through eternity.
So what do you say? Let’s walk this path together, grow in faith, serve with love, and live out our ministry missions for the glory of God.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” (Colossians 3:23)
